Michael Jackson
Biography
Michael Jackson was an American singer, songwriter, dancer and record producer who became known as the King of Pop. One of ten children, he started performing publicly at six as the Jackson 5's lead vocalist. His first adult solo album, Off the Wall (1979), made him a solo star, and Thriller (1982) went on to become the best-selling album of all time. Bad (1987) was the first record to yield five number-one US singles, while Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995) also sold well. His last album, Invincible (2001), was the most expensive ever made. On screen, he played the Scarecrow in The Wiz (1978) and released Moonwalker (1988) and the 3D film Captain EO (1986). He shared writing credit on We Are the World (1985) with Lionel Richie. His honors included 13 Grammys, a Grammy Legend Award and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and he entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He died in 2009.
