Plot summary
Michael's film gathers music videos and short films, several from his 1987 album Bad. One segment records a live performance from his Bad World Tour, and another follows his career from the Jackson 5 onward. Children restage his Bad video, and a chase follows him as he flees his fans. In the fantasy tale, Michael plays in a meadow with three orphans: Sean, Katie and Zeke. Their dog Skipper runs off, and Michael and Katie, searching, find a hidden lair. It belongs to Frankie Lideo, called Mr. Big, a mobster who deals drugs and leads an army of henchmen.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Moonwalker (1988)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film was released theatrically in Australia, Europe and South America, but Warner Bros. canceled its Christmas 1988 theatrical release in the United States, putting it out on home video in January 1989 as the Bad World Tour finished.
- The region-free Blu-ray that Warner Bros. released in the United Kingdom in June 2010 was censored, cutting the scenes of Mr. Big hitting Katie and threatening to inject her with heroin.
- The “Leave Me Alone” video aired as a separate entity and won a Grammy in 1990 for Best Music Video, Short Form, the only Grammy Award Jackson received for the album Bad.
- A Moonwalker comic illustrated by Abel Laxamana was a major factor in the demise of Blackthorne: the publisher had paid a large licensing fee for the property, the comic flopped, and Blackthorne ceased operations in 1990.
- The drug-dealing mobster villain Frankie Lideo, also known as Mr. Big, was named as a play on Jackson's real-life manager Frank DiLeo (1947-2011).
- Moonwalker was originally released on VHS and remained number one on Billboard's Video Chart for 22 weeks, also spending 14 weeks at number one on Billboard's Top Video-Cassette sales chart.
- In April 2026, Plaion Pictures released a limited edition Blu-ray Mediabook in Germany that includes the original theatrical cut of the film, restoring the previously censored scenes.
