Plot summary
Footage from the rehearsals for Michael Jackson's planned comeback residency at London's O2 Arena was shot mostly at the Staples Center and The Forum in Los Angeles. Jackson runs through numbers including "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", "Jam", "Human Nature", "Smooth Criminal", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Thriller", "Beat It", "Black or White", "Earth Song", "Billie Jean" and "Man in the Mirror" with a band, backup singers and dancers. He gives notes to his musical team, alters dance routines as he goes and works on video sequences, staging and aerial routines. He also rehearses a medley of Jackson 5 songs and a duet on "I Just Can't Stop Loving You". Short dialogues from dancers open the film.

- Columbia and AEG Live agreed that the final version of the film should be no longer than 150 minutes and that it must attain a PG rating. The contract also stated that footage showing Jackson in a negative way was not allowed: footage that paints Jackson in a bad light will not be permitted.
- Ortega said the film was pieced together from private footage shot by documentarians Sandrine Orabona and Tim Patterson, and that before Jackson's death it was never intended to be released: the tapes were destined for Jackson's private library and have a real unguarded honesty to them.
