Plot summary
Studio 54, the New York City nightclub Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager opened on April 26, 1977, changed nightlife in the city. People who were there describe how the club was designed, produced and promoted, and how its building's theatrical and broadcasting features became a dancefloor with immersive lighting and staged theme parties. Vintage footage and photographs show the club's late-1970s peak, a scene of freedom and escapism, heavy drug use and sexual promiscuity. Celebrity guests came often, and press coverage drew crowds to the velvet ropes.
