  1. About the name

Springsteen got the nickname "the Boss" because he collected his band's nightly pay and distributed it among his bandmates. The name also reportedly came from Monopoly games he played with other Jersey Shore musicians.

  2. A first

In October 1975, Springsteen was featured on the front of both Newsweek and Time within one week. No other artist had ever done that before.

  3. A first

Springsteen's album Letter to You hit No. 2 in the US. That made him the first artist with a top-five album in six decades in a row.

  4. A role that slipped away

Springsteen wrote "Cover Me" for Donna Summer, but his record company talked him into keeping the song for his own Born in the U.S.A. album.

  5. A first

All seven of Springsteen's albums were on the UK Albums Chart at the same time between June 15 and August 10, 1985. No artist had ever charted a complete back catalog simultaneously before.

  6. First role

Springsteen acted for the first time in the last episode of Lilyhammer's third season, a show starring Van Zandt. That episode, called Loose Ends, got its title from a Springsteen song on the Tracks album.
