Plot summary
At a warehouse, NSA agents Vukovich and Traxler keep watch on a group of scientists. William Wishman, Lewis Aberricki, Randy Fraker, and the couple Jim and Gale have built a time machine for their mysterious backer, Mr. Landau. Vukovich reports that an agent working undercover has joined the team and sent back little information. Landau picks Jim to make the first trip, calling him expendable, while the others privately question his importance. Jim's father gambled compulsively and died poor, a fate Jim is determined to avoid. Sent an hour ahead, Jim returns seconds after leaving and tells the team to shut the machine down.

- Writer-director Michael Hurst named most of the characters in Paradox after the cast and crew of The Terminator, part of a deliberate homage to James Cameron's films; he also said he was aiming to appeal to fans of Timecrimes and Primer.
- Zoë Bell was cast as the scientist Gale because Hurst wanted a strong female lead in the mould of the Terminator series; the distributor XLrator Media had suggested her for the part.
