Lynn Bari
Biography
Lynn Bari was an American actress who spent her career at 20th Century Fox, often cast as sultry, statuesque man-killers. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, she adopted her stage name as a teenager and joined Fox in 1935 with a six-month contract after 18 months in the studio's training school. Her early parts were uncredited, usually receptionists or chorus girls, and leading roles remained rare, among them Hello, Frisco, Hello (1943). In B movies she was a villainess or man-killer, notably in Shock (1946) and Nocturne (1946), though she also took a dramatic lead in The Bridge of San Luis Rey. She moved into television in the 1950s, starring in the sitcom Detective's Wife and her own sitcom Boss Lady. Later she played matronly characters, such as the snobbish mother in Has Anybody Seen My Gal (1952). Her final film was The Young Runaways (1968). She received two Hollywood Walk of Fame stars, one for movies and one for television.

About the name
Lynn Bari adopted the stage name Lynn Barrie at age 14, combining theater actress Lynn Fontanne and author J. M. Barrie, then changed the spelling after reading about the Italian city of Bari.

Bari was one of 14 young women who received six-month 20th Century Fox contracts on August 6, 1935, after 18 months in the studio's training school, when she was 16.
A first
A survey of GIs during World War II ranked Bari as the second-most popular pinup girl, placing her behind the much better-known Betty Grable.
Beyond film
Bari had her own sitcom, Boss Lady, in 1952. It was a summer replacement for NBC's Fireside Theater, and she played Gwen F. Allen, the beautiful head of a construction firm.
