Plot summary
Prison escapee Moose Malloy arrives at the nightclub where Velma Valento once danced as a showgirl, looking for the woman he has not seen in five years. The place, Florian's, is now called Club 13, and nobody there admits to knowing her. When Moose's frustration turns violent, the gentleman detective Gay Lawrence, known as the Falcon, begins asking questions of his own. Inspector Mike O'Hara wants Moose for the trouble he has caused. The Falcon calls on Jessie Florian, the widow of the club's former owner, who is guarded about Velma and offers only that she is dead. Reporter Ann Riordan follows the case as well.
