Plot summary
Hollywood composer Keith Vincent is at his piano finishing a song when a shot is fired in his home. The lieutenant in charge of the case reads the death as a suicide, but detective Joe Warne sees murder. On the sheet music sits a dedication to a woman named Dolores, and no one will say who she is. Vincent's housekeeper, Susan, is brought in for questioning after Warne places her as an ex-con. The houseboy reports that Vincent, a womanizer, was arranging to meet a woman and that he called all his girlfriends Dolores. One portrait has disappeared from a row of photographs of Vincent's former flames. The coroner returns a verdict of suicide, and Warne keeps working the case after his boss warns him to drop it.
