Plot summary

In San Francisco, in the years of the Panama Pacific Exposition, Johnny Cornell leads a vaudeville quartet that plays honky tonk engagements, and he intends to take the act to the big time. Trudy Evans, the troupe's star singer, loves him, but he spurns her and turns his attention to Bernice Croft, a selfish heiress. The period is also that of the first transcontinental telephone call, made from New York by Alexander Graham Bell.
