Biography
Kristy Swanson is an American actress who moved from television commercials into film during the 1980s and 1990s. Raised in Mission Viejo, California, she trained with R. J. Adams at The Actors Workshop and took early guest parts in series including Cagney & Lacey and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Her 1986 film debut brought small roles in two John Hughes movies, Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and her first starring part, in Wes Craven's Deadly Friend. She won a Young Artist Award for Flowers in the Attic (1987) and played the title role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). Her most critically acclaimed role came in John Singleton's Higher Learning (1995), and her other films include Hot Shots! (1991), The Phantom (1996), Big Daddy (1999) and Dude, Where's My Car? (2000). She later starred in the series Grapevine.
