Plot summary

In the Germanic kingdom of Hauptmann-Koenig, Prince William loves the peasant girl Jessie, but his mother the queen and her court sorcerer Spretzel enchant a necklace that turns Jessie into a wooden statue, frozen for a thousand years unless a suitor from a foreign land removes it first. William curses the kingdom with endless rain. By 1991 Hauptmann-Koenig is poor, and its rulers ship the statue to the Prince & Company department store in Philadelphia for a stage presentation about their country. Count Gunther Spretzle, the sorcerer's descendant, wants the girl for himself and the crown jewels for his retirement. Jason Williamson, the reincarnation of William, works at the store as assistant to Hollywood Montrose, who is staging the presentation. When the delivery truck crashes into the Schuylkill River, Jason pulls the statue from the water.
