Plot summary
The Montgomerys, Charles and Judith with their children Alexander, Jennifer and Emily, go to a new, isolated mountain cabin in upstate New York that Charles' development company built. Charles presents the trip as a chance to reconnect, though the family knows the cabin exists for his business, which he fears could fold. Judith believes he puts work and money ahead of her and the children, and the household is unhappy. A snowstorm closes in as they arrive, and the Tuckers, Joe and Amy with their children Robbie and Lucie, knock at the door; their van ran off the road on the way to a ski trip, and they need a place to stay until it passes. The Tuckers are a close, supportive family, and while they are snowed in the two households get to know each other.
