Plot summary
Strangulations across London reach Nayland Smith, assistant commissioner at Scotland Yard, who watched Fu Manchu beheaded in China. Smith suspects the criminal mastermind is still directing his network. The deaths point to a spray made from the seed of the Blackhill poppy, a rare Tibetan flower, and a pint of the poison could kill everyone in the city. Professor Muller, whose research touches an ancient Tibetan legend, has been abducted, and so has his daughter Maria. Muller will not reveal how the poisonous essence is drawn from the seeds. The seeds pass through Hanumon, a warehouse owner, and the trail keeps returning to the Thames.

- Much of The Face of Fu Manchu was shot at the deserted Kenure House in Rush, County Dublin, with other scenes at Skerries, Dublin docks and Kilmainham Gaol. Director Don Sharp said producer Harry Alan Towers had to pay off members of the IRA so they could film at the prison.
- Producer Harry Alan Towers had been arrested in New York in 1961 for bringing a woman into the country for the purposes of prostitution, and escaped the country on bail.
- Christopher Lee's Fu Manchu makeup took two and a half hours to put on and left him extremely uncomfortable: his features were rendered immobile and his eyelids fixed so he could not blink, leaving him only his eyes to act with.
- Christopher Lee recalled that the shoot had execrable conditions, with bleak, miserable weather and everyone on the unit down with flu; the elderly German actor Walter Rilla almost died. They worked in ramshackle, abandoned dwellings where water ran down the walls.
