Plot summary
Murdoch Troon, a proud Scot who works for a local government authority in South London, is a shy young man whose chief excitement is cycling. When an impatient driver forces him off the road, he tracks the car to Commander Charles Chingford, a domineering man who owns a sports car distributorship. Chingford pays for the damage to the bicycle, and Murdoch meets his daughter Claire, who loves sports cars but is not permitted one. Smitten with her and unable to drive, Murdoch lets Freddie Fox, his fellow lodger and a used car salesman hoping to win Chingford's favor, talk him into buying a car. It is a vintage Bentley known as The Fast Lady.
