Ice-T
Biography
Ice-T, born Tracy Lauren Marrow in Newark, New Jersey, is a rapper and actor who made his name in hip-hop before moving into heavy metal as well. He came up as an underground rapper during the 1980s and signed with Sire Records in 1987, the year his debut album Rhyme Pays appeared and went gold. His own label, Rhyme Syndicate, put out Power in 1988, and O.G. Original Gangster (1991) introduced his metal group Body Count, whose 1992 debut stirred controversy over the track Cop Killer. On screen he went from minor parts in Breakin' (1984) and Rappin' (1985) to his major role debut in New Jack City (1991), playing the police detective Scotty Appleton, and he took top billing in Surviving the Game (1994). Since 2000 he has portrayed Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which earned him a second NAACP Image Award.
