Biography

Born in Sacramento, California, Sab Shimono is a stage and screen performer of Japanese heritage. His career began in regional theaters and on Broadway, where he played Ito in the 1966 musical Mame opposite Angela Lansbury. He followed that with Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen, The Chickencoop Chinaman, and Manjiro in Pacific Overtures, later returning as Lord Abe in the 2004 revival. A Drama Desk Award nomination came for his leading part in The Wash. On film he portrayed Lt. Tomonaga in Midway, Saito in Gung Ho (1986), Hiroshi Kawamura in Come See the Paradise (1990), the coroner in Presumed Innocent (1990), Lord Norinaga in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993), Dr. Tam in The Shadow (1994), and Yoshiro Nishamura in Old Dogs (2009). He dubbed Subotai in Conan the Barbarian (1982). His television voice work includes Uncle in Jackie Chan Adventures and the elderly Emperor in Samurai Jack.
