Biography
Eva Marie Saint is an American retired actress whose career in television, film and theater lasted more than seven decades, earning her an Academy Award and a Primetime Emmy. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1946 and began as a television and radio performer in the late 1940s. Her stage work in Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful (1953) won her a Theatre World Award, and her movie debut came opposite Marlon Brando in Elia Kazan's On the Waterfront (1954), for which she took the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. After Raintree County (1957) and A Hatful of Rain (1957), she took the femme fatale role of Eve Kendall in Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959). Later credits include Exodus (1960), Grand Prix (1966), Because of Winn-Dixie (2005) and Superman Returns (2006). She won her Emmy for the miniseries People Like Us (1990).
