Enrique Lucero

Biography

Enrique Lucero was a Mexican actor whose career stretched to more than 120 film roles, beginning with his 1949 debut in the Argentinian production La historia del tango. He was born in Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, and became widely known for playing Death in Macario (1960), a Mexican film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. For his portrayal of Fray Enrique Meza Pérez in Canoa: A Shameful Memory (1976) he received an Ariel Award nomination for Best Actor. Lucero also worked in American Westerns and action films shot in Mexico, among them The Magnificent Seven (1960), Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970), The Long Goodbye (1973) and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974), the last of several for director Sam Peckinpah, who favored him. He played Geronimo in the 1979 miniseries Mr. Horn and died in Mexico City in 1989.
