Jorge Russek

Biography

Jorge Russek was a Mexican actor who worked in film and television for more than 40 years. Born in Guaymas, Sonora, and raised partly in the United States, he began as an extra in 1950 and had his first notable role in La vida de Agustín Lara. He acted in many genres but became known for Westerns in the late 1960s and early 1970s, appearing in The Wild Bunch (1969), Soldier Blue (1970), and The Wrath of God (1972), and on American TV shows including I Spy and The High Chaparral. He won the Ariel Award for Best Actor in 1976 and Best Supporting Actor in 1989. Later he starred in telenovelas and won three TVyNovelas Awards for Best Leading Actor, with his final role in Huracán. Off screen he was also a professional photographer.
