Plot summary
Caine makes his living running guns, and when he loses his cargo he is stranded in a Sudanese port on the Red Sea. In the town he meets Anna, who needs a diver for a ship that lies in shark-infested water and tells him the dive is for scientific research. Caine takes the job, seeing in the wreck a chance to make up for what he lost. He is not the only one with an interest in the sunken ship.

- It was claimed that stuntman José Marco was killed on camera by a shark that broke through protective netting while shooting off Isla Mujeres, prompting a Life photo spread, and that the film was retitled Shark! to cash in on the controversy. A Skin Diver magazine investigation found no record of the attack.
- Director Samuel Fuller supervised the editing in Mexico City for four weeks, but his cut was re-edited without his approval by Herbert L. Strock. Fuller called the released version terrible and demanded the producers take his name off the film.
