Claudio Brook

Biography

Claudio Brook was a Mexican actor who worked across film, stage, and television for nearly forty years and became a leading figure in Mexico's Golden Age cinema. Born in Mexico City, he made his film debut in 1955 and appeared in more than 100 film and television productions; on stage he took the lead in the Mexico City premiere of Man of La Mancha in 1969. He worked with Luis Buñuel on five of the director's films, among them Viridiana (1961), The Milky Way (1969), and Simon of the Desert (1965). He won two Ariel Awards, for Memoriales perdidos and Esperanza, and was honored on the Paseo de las Luminarias. His international credits included a British RAF pilot in La Grande Vadrouille (1966) and a banker in Licence to Kill (1989). In one of his final roles he was the antagonist Dieter de la Guardia in Cronos (1993), Guillermo del Toro's first feature.
