Roger Cudney
Biography
Roger Cudney was an American actor and singer who spent most of his career in Mexico. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he first reached Mexico City in the 1960s with the touring cast of the musical Show Boat, and he later worked as a radio announcer for CBS, covering the 1968 Summer Olympics and the Acapulco Film Festival. He became known for starring in Mexican films and telenovelas, often as authoritarian characters or villains, and in 2003 The Wall Street Journal described his specialty as playing unpopular gringos; David Wilt, a compiler of the Biographical Dictionary of Mexican Film Performers, called him the epitome of the bad gringo. He also acted in Hollywood productions shot in Mexico, among them The Evil That Men Do (1984), in which he had a co-starring part opposite Charles Bronson, and in La dictadura perfecta he took the role of the American ambassador to Mexico. He died in 2021.
