Plot summary
Marking twenty years since the first Harry Potter film, the special gathers the three actors who led the series with surviving principal cast members, the producer and the filmmakers who directed the adaptations. Those taking part sit for interviews and conversations. It was filmed at the studio tour in Leavesden, England, and its music includes new recordings of two themes from the early films. Performers from the series who have since died are honored. The author of the books appears only briefly, in archival interview footage from 2019, and some interviewees mention her. Errors in the first version were corrected days later.

- J. K. Rowling, the Harry Potter author who had a significant role in the film adaptations, is largely absent from the special: she appears for under thirty seconds in 2019 archival footage and is in none of its advertising. Entertainment Weekly reported she was invited but felt the archival footage was sufficient.
- Robbie Coltrane's appearance in the reunion special was his final on-screen role before his death on 14 October 2022.
- The first version of the special mistakenly showed a childhood photo of Emma Roberts as a young Emma Watson and swapped the labels of twins Oliver and James Phelps; both errors were corrected by 3 January.
- John Williams, who scored the first three Harry Potter films, re-recorded two of his own compositions, "Hedwig's Theme" and "Harry's Wondrous World", for the special.
