Biography

Colman Domingo is an American actor, playwright, and director who was born and raised in Philadelphia and began his career in regional theater before moving to Broadway. He appeared in Well, Passing Strange, and Chicago, and earned Tony and Olivier Award nominations for The Scottsboro Boys. He wrote the book for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical and co-produced Fat Ham. On television, he portrayed Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead and won a Primetime Emmy Award for his guest role on Euphoria, later earning Emmy nominations for The Four Seasons. In film, he received consecutive Academy Award nominations for Best Actor for Rustin (2023) and Sing Sing (2024), and appeared in Selma (2014), If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020), The Color Purple (2023), and Michael (2026). He also directed episodes of Fear the Walking Dead.

Domingo got his breakout role in the AMC spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead, which he said gave him a new footing back in the industry and made him believe he had something to give.
Behind the camera
Domingo wrote the book for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical in 2018 and co-produced Fat Ham in 2023, a present-day take on William Shakespeare's Hamlet that earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Play.

Domingo voiced Batman in The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark, a Spotify scripted podcast. He then reprised the role in Batman Unburied's second season, succeeding Winston Duke in the part.
Getting ready for a role
In 2026, Domingo portrayed Joe Jackson in Michael, a musical biopic about singer Michael Jackson. For the role he used heavy prosthetics and colored contact lenses, and trimmed his mustache into a pencil-thin line.
