Plot summary
Tony Kiritsis believes the Halls cheated him out of profit. On February 8, 1977, he comes to their Indianapolis mortgage office to see the broker M.L. Hall, who is away on vacation, and Hall's son Richard meets him instead. Tony pulls a gun on Richard and fastens a shotgun to his neck, set to fire if anyone interferes or Richard runs. He tells the police Richard is his prisoner, seizes a police car and makes Richard drive to his apartment, with officers and reporters trailing. There the doors and windows are wired with explosives, the building is evacuated, and Tony ties Richard to the kitchen table with the shotgun and states his demands, among them $5 million and an apology from M.L.
