Plot summary
Homer Flagg works on the railroad in Desert Hole, New Mexico, and longs to see New York City while he is young. At an old atomic proving ground, he comes across an abandoned car. His doctor and best friend, Steve Harris, tells him the car has left him with radiation poisoning and only three weeks to live. New York reporter Wally Cook hears of his situation and persuades her editor, Oliver Stone, to fund a trip to New York.
