Harry Lauter
Biography
Harry Lauter was an American character actor who first worked as a photographer's model and a rodeo rider. Born in White Plains, New York, he came from an entertainment family: his father and grandfather had performed in the Flying Lauters trapeze act. His breakthrough came in The Magnificent Rogue (1946), where he played a model. He spent much of his career in supporting roles in low-budget movies, serials, and countless television shows, mostly westerns. His only real shot at stardom arrived when he played Clay Morgan in the CBS show Tales of the Texas Rangers, a series with 52 episodes broadcast between 1955 and 1958. He also appeared on Rocky Jones, Space Ranger in 1953, and later guested on Perry Mason and The Wild Wild West. His final screen role came in 1979 on How the West Was Won. He also had uncredited bits in White Heat (1949) and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963).
