Biography

Andy Serkis is an English actor and director known for motion capture acting. Born in Ruislip in 1964, he studied visual arts and theater at Lancaster University. His breakthrough came as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, a performance that sparked debate about CGI-assisted acting. He later provided motion capture for King Kong (2005) and for Caesar in the rebooted Planet of the Apes movies (2011 to 2017). Other screen roles include Captain Haddock in The Adventures of Tintin (2011), Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and again in The Last Jedi (2017), Ulysses Klaue in Black Panther (2018), and Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman (2022). His role in Longford (2006) brought a BAFTA nomination and a Golden Globe nomination, and he won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021 for The Letter for the King. He directed Breathe (2017), Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018), and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021).
