Plot summary
Haley Graham was once among the most promising gymnasts in the United States, known for difficult moves and raw power rather than consistency. At the World Gymnastics Championships a year earlier she left the team all-around final just before her last floor routine, and the American team lost the gold medal; she gave up the sport that day. Now seventeen, she is arrested after an illegal bike race and brought before a judge, who orders her to enroll at the Vickerman Gymnastics Academy in Houston, run by the legendary coach Burt Vickerman. He offers to train her for an upcoming invitational whose prize money would settle the property damage she owes. The other gymnasts resent her, and Haley dislikes the rigid rules and the intense training schedule.
