Plot summary
In 2018, Wade Wilson borrowed Cable's time travel device to save Vanessa Carlysle, then asked to join the Avengers and was sent home by Happy Hogan. Six years on, he has given up the Deadpool mask, broken up with Vanessa, and sells used cars with Peter Wisdom. At his birthday party the Time Variance Authority detains him and hands him to Mr. Paradox, who offers Wade a place on the Sacred Timeline. Wade learns his own universe is breaking down and that Paradox plans to hasten its end with a machine. He takes Paradox's device and goes looking for a Wolverine from another universe, hoping a replacement can hold his world together.

- The writers wanted Robert Downey Jr. to reprise Tony Stark / Iron Man alongside Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan, but he turned the cameo down after reading the scene, the only actor to decline a role in the film according to writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
- The film's teaser trailer racked up 365 million global views in its first 24 hours, beating Spider-Man: No Way Home's previous record of 355.5 million to become the most-viewed trailer of all time; Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman received Guinness World Records certificates for it.
- Deadpool & Wolverine's budget was initially reported at $200 million, but Disney tax filings later revealed its final costs exceeded that, with a gross cost of $533.7 million and a net cost of $429 million after tax credits, making it one of the most expensive films ever made.
- Walker Scobell was originally cast to voice the child variant Kidpool, but his voice changed too much from puberty during the film's extended production, so Ryan Reynolds's own daughter Inez took over the role instead.
