Plot summary
Sent to Earth as a child by his guardian Longclaw, Sonic grows up alone in a cave near Green Hills, Montana, keeping himself hidden from the town's people. He admires the sheriff, Tom Wachowski, and Tom's wife Maddie from a distance. One night, playing baseball by himself, Sonic's frustration triggers an electromagnetic pulse that cuts power across the Pacific Northwest. The Department of Defense calls in the scientist Dr. Robotnik, whose drones find Sonic's footprint in the forest. Sonic prepares to leave for another planet with the golden rings Longclaw gave him, but Tom surprises him in the shed, and a dart from Maddie's tranquilizer gun sends the bag of rings through a portal to San Francisco. Sonic asks Tom to drive him there while Robotnik and Agent Stone pursue them.
