Plot summary
A crowd of holidaymakers gathers at a caravan site owned by a major. Fred Ramsden and his friend Ernie Bragg arrive for a break while their wives Sylvia and Vera head off to a health farm, and Fred soon takes an interest in two young campers, Carol and Sandra. Linda Upmore's mother Daphne comes along with her daughter and son-in-law Arthur, bringing a mynah bird that swears. Norma Baxter and her husband Joe have their wolfhound in tow. Professor Roland Crump is digging for Roman remains beside the camp, and the Roman expert Anna Vooshka is sent to assist him; when she drives her car into his caravan, the two have to share a single caravan.

- In Carry On Behind, Joan Sims played the mother of Patsy Rowlands's character Linda, even though Sims was only eight months older than her screen daughter.
- Carry On Behind was the first Carry On film not scripted by Talbot Rothwell since Carry On Cruising thirteen years earlier; series stalwart Sid James was also missing, touring in a play while Rothwell's health prevented him from writing.
- The film was the last Carry On for Bernard Bresslaw, in his 14th series appearance, for Liz Fraser in her fourth, for Patsy Rowlands in her ninth and for Carol Hawkins in her second.
