Plot summary

In 1954, the boys at Angel Beach High School in Florida share one ambition: to lose their virginity. Pee Wee chases it hardest, and his desperation lands him in one predicament after another, while his friends Billy and Tommy run surveillance on their female classmates. Tim, a decent sort, has to confront his own racism when a Jewish student, Brian Schwartz, arrives at the school. The pursuit stalls, so Mickey, whose brother Ted is the county sheriff, proposes Porky's, a bar that doubles as a brothel in Wallacetown, out in the Everglades. Porky Wallace pockets their money and has the boys dumped into the swamp; his brother, the sheriff, then takes what cash they have left. Cheated and humiliated, the boys want to strike back.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Porky's (1981)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Swaybill said it seems incredible to realize that Porky's, which earned more than $200 million worldwide, was done as a tax shelter; Kim Cattrall took a small role because she needed the money, and was horrified, at first, to see her name at the top of the poster.
  • When Clark fell ill with mononucleosis in 1979, he dictated the story of Porky's to Roger Swaybill, who then wrote a draft of the script. Every studio in Hollywood turned down the project.
  • Bob Clark got the idea to make Porky's in 1972, basing it on his experiences with five high school friends in Florida in the 1950s, on actual occurrences at Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport and Fort Lauderdale High School in the early 1960s, and on a venue called Porky's Hide Away in Oakland Park.
  • Because it was produced by Canadian company Astral Media, Porky's counts as the highest-grossing Canadian film ever in the United States and Canada, taking in C$111 million by 1999, despite being written and directed by an American and filmed in Florida.
  • Howard Stern acquired the remake rights in 2002 and has long hoped to produce a remake, but the potential remake ran into legal trouble in 2011 when two other production companies stepped forward claiming to own the rights.
  • In Ireland the film was banned on February 1, 1982, and the decision to ban Porky's was overturned just 19 days later.
