Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Atom Man vs. Superman (1950)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Lyle Talbot, playing Luthor and his masked alter-ego Atom Man, spoke in a vaguely German accent and wore an ominous mask fashioned from a leftover "Metallogen Man" robot costume from the 1945 serial The Monster and the Ape.
- Though they played enemies on screen, Talbot, who wore a rubber scalp to create the impression of baldness as Luthor, and Alyn, the serial's Superman, spent much of their non-shooting time exchanging recipes, as both actors were interested in cookery.
- The serial's flying effects improved on the earlier Superman serial by the simple expedient of turning the camera on its side: Kirk Alyn stood with arms raised in front of a cyclorama while a wind machine and smoke pot placed above him, out of frame, gave an inexpensive illusion of flight.
- Noel Neill, who played Lois Lane in this serial, returned to the role in 1953, replacing Phyllis Coates for the second through sixth and final seasons of The Adventures of Superman, and later became the model for Metropolis, Illinois's 2010 Lois Lane statue.
