Plot summary
Gru and Lucy Wilde, married agents of the Anti-Villain League, are tasked with recovering the Dumont Diamond after Balthazar Bratt, a former child actor from the 1980s, steals it. Gru takes the diamond back, but Bratt escapes, and the league's retiring director, Silas Ramsbottom, hands the top post to Valerie Da Vinci, who dismisses the couple. Once home, they break the news to their adopted daughters, Margo, Edith and Agnes, and promise new jobs will follow. Gru refuses to go back to being a supervillain, so most of his Minions, led by Mel, walk out to seek work elsewhere. An invitation then arrives from Dru, a wealthy twin brother Gru never knew he had, who lives in Freedonia.
