John Bindon

John Bindon was an English actor and bodyguard who was born in Fulham and got his start in film after Ken Loach noticed him in a London pub and gave him a part in Poor Cow (1967). He was often cast as criminals or hard-nosed detectives. In Performance (1970) he played a violent gangster with Mick Jagger, and his work in that film drew critical praise while leading to similar roles. In Get Carter (1971) he was a London crime boss, and in The Mackintosh Man (1973) he appeared as a prisoner opposite Paul Newman. He also had a role in Barry Lyndon (1975) and played a drug dealer in Quadrophenia (1979). His television credits included The Gold Robbers, Department S, Z-Cars, Special Branch, Softly, Softly: Taskforce and Hazell, usually in tough-guy parts. He later did security work, and his acting career declined; he died in 1993.
