Plot summary
Gone in 60 Seconds is finished, and its premiere is set for the Cinerama Dome. Harlan B. Hollis made the film, and someone resents him for it enough to hire a team of contract killers. Frank Spyros, who heads the team, answers a pay phone and is told to go ahead with the hit. That same person then plays a video about Hollis's life, ejects it, and crumples a publicity shot of Hollis. Hollis drives to Cholame, California, for the James Dean Festival. Spyros and the other hitmen follow him along the road, and Hollis has to stay alive and work out who wants him dead.

- The Junkman holds the Guinness World Record for wrecking over 150 cars, trucks, motorcycles and planes in one movie.
- To make the film, H. B. Halicki used his own personal collection of over 200 cars, toys, and guns, including Eleanor, the star of his 1974 cult classic Gone in 60 Seconds.
- For the DVD release of The Junkman, the original film's rock and roll and country music soundtrack, including the title tracks, was replaced by a generic synthesizer music score, and a number of dialogue changes were made.
- Many locals were used as extras in The Junkman, and most of the San Luis Obispo County sheriff's deputies, Paso Robles and Atascadero police officers in it were serving officers at the time of filming; all of the California Highway Patrol officers were professional stunt drivers.
