Early training
Glynn Edwards received his professional acting training through Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, based at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East. There he took roles in The Good Soldier Svejk and two Brendan Behan plays, The Quare Fellow and The Hostage, all of which later transferred to the West End.
Big break
Littlewood saw Edwards herself while attending a performance of The Call of the Flesh, a successful play he had produced that gave Yootha Joyce an early role.
A role that slipped away
In 1964, Edwards took the part of Corporal William Allen, V.C. in Cy Endfield's cinema film Zulu. He chose that role over an offer of a part in Joan Littlewood's stage show Oh, What a Lovely War.
