Plot summary
Bruce Wayne has spent twenty years protecting his city as the masked figure Batman. Present in Metropolis when Superman battled General Zod, he came to regard the Kryptonian as a danger to all of humanity. Clark Kent, who reports for the Daily Planet, uses the newspaper to condemn Batman's harsh methods. Lex Luthor, the head of LexCorp, asks US Senator June Finch for permission to import kryptonite recovered after Zod's terraforming attempt, so it can deter future Kryptonian threats. She refuses him, and he turns to one of her staff.

- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the first live-action film to feature Batman and Superman together, as well as the first live-action cinematic portrayal of Wonder Woman.
- Gal Gadot had previously been offered the role of Faora Hu-Ul in Man of Steel but declined because she was pregnant at that time, and that refusal allowed her to be cast later as Wonder Woman.
- Ben Affleck was initially reluctant to play Batman, saying he "felt [he] didn't fit the traditional mold", until Snyder showed him the concept; his dislike of playing Daredevil in the 2003 film ultimately inspired him to take the role.
- Michael Shannon filmed no scenes for the movie, so the corpse of General Zod that appears in a crucial role was created using the physique of fitness model Greg Plitt combined with a head-shot of Shannon.

- Following the 2016 Brussels bombings, Warner Bros. originally canceled the red carpet of the film's London premiere, but decided to carry on with the premiere itself for the fans.
