Plot summary
A dark magician named Kishkumen takes the stone that Teela's sister was carrying and sets out to deliver it to his master, Szorlok. The sorcerer Gojun Pye tells Marek the stone's history: it is one fragment of the Darkspore, a piece that once belonged to the Lich King, split into four shards and hidden apart in the world after Szorlok was stopped from drawing its power. One shard waits in a dragon's lair inside a ruined city, and Marek and her company mean to reach it first. On the road, Peregus Malister and his forces hunt the company for revenge, while a dark-elf warrior named Qole, whose marked face shields him from dark magic, joins Marek after she saves him from faeries.
