Plot summary
Archive footage shot between 1965 and 1971 follows the Doors from their formation to the stages of sold-out arenas. Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison meet at UCLA's film school, and with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger the four form the band in 1965. Rehearsals, television broadcasts and concert performances show their first gigs, their debut album and the albums that follow, alongside private cine-film and material from a 1969 featurette by Morrison. Morrison, the singer, loves the spotlight and wants to be a poet. The band's surviving members kept their distance from the project so that an outsider's neutral balance could be kept.
