Robby Krieger

Robby Krieger is an American guitarist who helped start the rock band the Doors. Born in Los Angeles, he taught himself guitar while at boarding school and later studied flamenco with Frank Chin. He joined the Doors in 1965 alongside Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Jim Morrison, and wrote or co-wrote hits including Light My Fire, Touch Me, Love Her Madly and Love Me Two Times. His fingerstyle playing and songwriting helped the group become successful in the 1960s. He occasionally sang lead, including on Runnin' Blue, and remained with the Doors after Morrison's 1971 death, recording Other Voices and Full Circle before the band broke up in 1973. Later he led the Butts Band and the Robby Krieger Band, made jazz-fusion albums including Versions and Cinematix, and in 2023 Rolling Stone ranked him 248th among its 250 greatest guitarists.
