When Calls the Heart (2013) on Netflix

Plot summary

Elizabeth Thatcher comes from a wealthy Canadian family, and her father runs a shipping business, but she has trained as a school teacher. Her first assignment takes her to Coal Valley, Alberta, a small coal-mining town on the western frontier, where daily life is far plainer than in the city. About 50 miners have been lost in a recent accident, and the town's widows, among them Abigail Stanton, the foreman's widow, are increasingly forced to take the dead men's places as workers. Constable Jack Thornton of the Royal North West Mounted Police arrives after Elizabeth's father intervenes, apparently to keep her safe. He sees the posting as a dead end for his career and is angry about it, and he dislikes Elizabeth, while the locals take to her.
