Plot summary
In the magical realm of Coventry, Miranda, the queen of that world, gives birth to twin daughters, Apolla and Artemis, on Halloween night. When an evil force called the Darkness threatens them, their father Aron transfers all his powers to shield them and is killed. Their protectors, Illeana and Karsh, carry the infants to Earth and give them up for adoption. Apolla becomes Camryn Barnes, raised by a wealthy couple, while Artemis becomes Alex Fielding, who shares a room with her friend Lucinda after her mother's death and writes stories about magical twin sisters. On their twenty-first birthday, their protectors steer Alex into the store where Camryn is shopping, and the two meet for the first time since infancy, setting off a burst of magic that reveals the sisterly bond between them.

- Originally Tia was supposed to play Camryn and Tamera was supposed to play Alex, but the Mowry twins wanted their roles to be switched; for the first few days of filming the cast and crew had a hard time telling the two of them apart.
- When the movie first aired on Disney Channel on October 14, 2005, it was viewed by 7 million viewers, and in four subsequent airings during its first weekend it drew a total of 21.5 million viewers, making it the week's most popular cable program.
- Kristen Wilson, the actress who played the birth-mother of Camryn and Alex, is 9 years older than the Mowry Twins who play her grown daughters, and Karen Holness, who plays Camryn's adoptive mother, is only a year older than Tia and Tamera.
- Production began in June 2005 and was shot entirely in Toronto, Ontario, where special effects and green screens simulated the magic tricks: the transitions between Earth and Coventry, the moon and sun put on the same horizon, and, with a wind machine, the Darkness' presence.
