Plot summary
César Faz loses his job as a clubhouse attendant with the St. Louis Cardinals and moves to Monterrey, Mexico. There he finds local children playing baseball under the guidance of Padre Esteban, and he mentors the young pitcher Ángel Macías. César boasts about his own pitching and about the coaching he says he once did for the Cardinals. Ángel persuades him to help recruit and coach the city's first Little League team. Padre Esteban lends his support, and the boys, among them Enrique Suárez, Mario Ontiveros and Norberto Villarreal, train together until they can hold their own in competitive play.

In the final game of the Little League World Series, Monterrey beat West La Mesa, California, 4-0: Enrique Suárez hit a grand slam and Ángel Macías pitched a perfect game, a feat that has not been repeated in Little League World Series history.- The Industriales de Monterrey little league team was so dominant that year that they were able to repeat their success the following year, at the 1958 Little League World Series.
- The Perfect Game was shot twice, with the majority of the cast returning to make the film all over again for a second time.
- The film was originally set for theaters on August 8, 2008, but was bumped from that date, which Lionsgate said was due to marketing monies another party pledged but did not deliver.
