Plot summary
Thrown from his coach in Eastern Europe, the peddler Weller wakes at night to see a caped figure impaled on a crucifix. He examines what is left: a ring, a cape and a clasp marked with the name Dracula, along with dried blood. Meanwhile, William Hargood, Samuel Paxton and Jonathon Secker keep up a charitable circle that hides their visits to brothels. There they meet Lord Courtley, disinherited by his father for holding a Black Mass, who offers them an experience to remember. He takes them to Weller's shop to buy the relics, then to an abandoned church, where he mixes the dried blood with his own and tells them to drink.

- Taste the Blood of Dracula was written without Dracula; with Christopher Lee reluctant to return, Hammer planned to replace him with Ralph Bates as Lord Courtley, who would rise and seek revenge on William Hargood (Geoffrey Keen), Samuel Paxton (Peter Sallis) and Jonathon Secker (John Carson). Warner Bros. refused to release it without Dracula, so Hammer convinced Lee to return.
- An alternative version of the scene where Lucy Paxton (Isla Blair) bites Jeremy Secker (Martin Jarvis) was filmed, with Jeremy becoming a vampire, but it was not used, possibly to avoid introducing another vampire to the plot.
- The gentlemen's visit to the local brothel was heavily edited on the film's original release; the scenes are fully reinstated on the DVD release.
