Dracula lies under the ice of the river past his castle, while in the village the priest has lost his faith and the villagers stay away from Mass because the castle's shadow falls on the church. Monsignor Ernst Mueller climbs the hill to exorcise the castle and fastens a cross to its gate. The frightened priest, who follows partway, falls, and his blood seeps through a crack in the ice to the Count's lips. Barred from his castle, Dracula brings the priest under his control, has him dig a coffin, and learns who sealed the door. Mueller goes home to his niece Maria and her boyfriend Paul, a baker. Dracula arrives in their town and takes the tavern girl Zena into his service.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Freddie Francis, himself a cameraman, had the film photographed by Arthur Grant through his own colored filters, the ones he had used on The Innocents (1961). Whenever Christopher Lee's Dracula or his castle is on screen, the frame edges are tinged crimson, amber and yellow.
- Terence Fisher was originally going to direct the Hammer film, but dropped out after breaking his leg in an automobile accident, and Freddie Francis stepped in instead. Francis replaced him for this fourth entry in the Dracula series.
- In Australia the film was the first Hammer Dracula to be passed by the censors, the earlier Dracula and Dracula: Prince of Darkness having been banned there. It was still slightly censored for its run.
