Plot summary
Captain Ernie Slade commands a Boeing 747 bound from London to New York. In the baggage hold sits a druidic sacrificial altar that a wealthy architect and his wife are shipping overseas. Also aboard are a former priest, Paul Kovalik, and the millionaire Glenn Farlee. Not long after takeoff the altar releases the ghosts of the druids, angered at being taken from their old home. Gale-force winds drive the aircraft back toward London, and the cabin interior begins to freeze. The spirits torment the crew and passengers with visions and with objects they move without touching them. Those on board try to work out what the presence in the hold wants from them.
