Plot summary
In Transylvania, Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang and his hunchbacked assistant Floop steal body parts from graves to assemble an experimental man, and Floop brings back the head of the comedian Shecky Von Rathbone rather than that of his astrophysicist brother Shelly. Electricity gives the creation life, and Floop names him Herman Munster. Wolfgang presents him on the television program Good Morning Transylvania, where Herman's goofy stand-up routine turns him into a celebrity. Lily, the Count's 150-year-old vampire daughter, is disappointed by a recent date with Count Orlock and is charmed by Herman's odd personality. The two meet at Zoya Krupp's nightclub, and Herman falls for her as well, but her father the Count takes an instant dislike to the bumbling suitor and looks for a way to be rid of him.

- Rob Zombie took over a Munsters film at Universal in 2016 that was aimed at preschoolers and focused on Herman and Lily's son, Eddie, but the studio canceled it to explore television options.
- Producers thought a black-and-white Munsters film would be difficult to market, so Rob Zombie lit it in a colorful "hyper-real" style after seeing his actors in makeup look like "cartoon characters come to life".
- COVID-19 lockdowns meant the cast of The Munsters lived together in the same building for three months, and they got to know each other.
- Catherine Schell, cast as Zoya Krupp, made her first film appearance since 1993, and Rob Zombie shared a photo of her from the set in early 2022.
